For the purposes of this tutorial we downloaded some free ebooks from around the web and placed them, temporarily, in the /Ebook Library/temp/ folder. Grab some free books online or some books you’ve already collected. Now it’s time to start adding books to Calibre. After configuring your email service, click finish. If you have a device that supports such a service we recommend you configure it now. In the third step you can configure Calibre to email documents to your ebook reader, such as to your Kindle’s email address.
If you do use one select the appropriate device such as Amazon/Kindle. If you don’t use one go ahead and leave it as Generic/Generic e-ink device. In the second step you tell Calibre what ebook reader you use. In our case we’re pointing Calibre at /Ebook Library/Ebooks/. We’re going to import your old ebooks into Calibre and let Calibre manage the directory structure. Make sure to create a new folder for your new Calibre library. When you run Calibre for the first time it will prompt you to select the language you want to use and the location of your library. Calibre stores all information (meta data and covers) in each unique book directory. If you’re not using the portable version don’t stress about not putting everything together. Which makes me think that there is no issue with the adaptor as it would not be seen in finder.Thus we can easily backup the entire library, management app and all, at once. I am having the exact same issue, but I do not believe that it is an issue with the thunderbolt adapter as I can see the Kindle in finder. Is it possible that the thunderbolt adapter and Kindle wire aren't working together? Or is it the new Mac or the new Calibre that's having problems? Calibre on my new Mac doesn't have that notification. I noticed that whenever I plug my Kindle into my old Mac, Calibre will pop up a notification that says I have to change the USB preferences on my Kindle to transfer files. I've gone into the Calibre preferences and clicked "Debug Device Detection" in the Misc. I've also gone into my Kindle preferences and made sure the USB preferences say "File Transfer".
I've restarted my Kindle, Mac, and Calibre but it doesn't work. Meanwhile, my old MacBook Pro and Calibre still do recognize my Kindle. However, whenever I plug in my Kindle 7 (9th Gen), Calibre doesn't recognize it. I downloaded the latest Calibre and transferred all of my books onto it. I recently bought a brand new MacBook Pro (Big Sur OS).
